Denmark 2010 Day 4

Well, today should be listed as a RTFS day. We intended to make our way out to the viking museum in Koteminde which required us to travel to Funen the next island over. In punching in the information the GPS informed us we would have to cross a toll road, which we knew would happen to cross the long bridge.  We said yes to the question and 2 hours later were confronted with a ferry across to the mainland.  It had not asked to avoid the toll road but to avoid the ferry.  So that meant turning around and since the ride back around and the correct way over the toll bridge would have brought us to the destination far too late we opted to instead try to visit Vallo Slot.  On the way we stopped at a rest area restaurant and had burgers.  They were good. William even tried to eat his with a knife and fork like the locals.

By the time we got to Vallo it had started to rain somewhat and we found out it is open to the public but the outside only.  We walked around the castle as much as we could and then decided we would head up to Helsingor to see Kronborg Slot.  I had been there a couple years ago and we passed by it last year.  With traffic we unfortunately only got there a few minutes before closing time so we walked around a bit and found that we had just missed them putting on productions of Hamlet in the courtyard as they were breaking down the stage.  It ended the 22nd so we couldn't have seen it but it would have been a neat idea. (For those who don't know Hamlet is set in Kronborg, I believe I mentioned it the first visit...)

After Kronborg we followed the Strandevej down to the apartment, picked up some pizza and called it a relatively early night.  Not every day can be a winner in travel. This one is chalked up as a mild failure though we still saw some cool stuff out in the bits of Denmark we hadn't seen before.
